The Printed Animal:
The korora is also known as the little blue penguin, and is the world's smallest penguin species. It occurs in both Australia and New Zealand, and in our home town of Dunedin – we often see them at our favourite place – Aramoana – in the water off the mole, darting and diving as they hunt for their breakfast! We love watching them. We have also seen them at Akaroa (where there is a special variant that has white flippers), and on Penguin Island in Western Australia. The korora is the inspiration for our logo, since it calls both Australia and New Zealand home – just like us!
Shipping:
New Zealand - If this item is being shipped to a rural address (it will have an RD on the second line in the address) please select the rural delivery upgrade box as we are charged the $4.80 in addition to our normal postage.
International - We charge the minimum amount it costs us to send a parcel overseas (this is set at 200g) This has gone up quite a lot recently with the addition of a $5 international charge for the electronic copy of the packing slip.
About us:
We have a passion for wildlife and our ever growing collection of stamps are inspired from either our own photos or sometimes those from a friend/family member. Steph uses the photo as a reference to sketch a simplified drawing of the animal in her sketchbook. Once she is happy with the look of the drawing she traces the drawing onto baking paper, which is then used to transfer the drawing onto a large rubber block (think of a giant pencil eraser!).
She then carves the intricate design into the rubber, leaving behind the surface that will carry the ink. Paddy does the printing; using a special fabric ink applied with a brayer to the stamp, which is then pressed onto our clothing products. For our cards, Paddy uses ink pads to apply ink to the stamp, which are then pressed onto the card, followed by a sprinkling of embossing powder, and then a quick trip to the toaster to melt the embossing powder, leaving behind a glossy finish!
We often post our printing process on our facebook page – you can follow our stamp making adventures there! https://www.facebook.com/stephandpaddyprints/
